## At a glance

- Weglot
  Translating proxy for any platform
  €15 a month
Unique translated words across all your languages: a fixed total that does not renew. Languages and projects are capped per plan. Prices exclude VAT. Free: 2,000 words, 1 language, 1 project. Checked 7 October 2026.
  What it does well
    - Works on almost any platform: Weglot says it connects natively to more than 70 platforms, including custom-built websites.
    - Server-side translation with hreflang and translated metadata, so search engines see every language.
    - Editing tools for teams: a visual editor, translators and teammates in the dashboard, and professional translation ordered inside Weglot.
    - A free plan for up to 2,000 words, and a 14-day free trial with no credit card required.
    - MCP-powered assistance in Weglot 2.0, so AI assistants can find projects, review translations and update content.
- GTranslate
  Language switcher and translating proxy
  $12 a month
A flat monthly price with no word or page-view limit, subject to fair use: the terms treat recurring traffic above 100,000 translated page hits in 24 hours as excessive. Prices in dollars. Free: A browser-only widget without SEO, for non-commercial use: personal, educational or internal testing. Checked 7 October 2026.
  What it does well
    - A free language switcher with more than 900,000 active WordPress installs.
    - No usage-based pricing: paid plans have no word or page-view limit, so the bill doesn’t grow with your content.
    - Works on any HTML site, with a subdirectory or subdomain per language on paid plans, and a country domain on Enterprise.

Weglot and GTranslate sell the same kind of product. Both put a translating proxy between your site and its visitors, so neither cares much which platform the site runs on, and both serve each language at an address search engines can index. They meter different things. Weglot sells a fixed number of translated words and a fixed number of languages per plan. GTranslate's paid plans carry no word or page-view limit at all, and you choose a plan by the features you need, such as translated URLs or a domain per language.

I build LangRelay, a WordPress translation plugin, and it appears near the end of this page. The Weglot and GTranslate facts come from their own sites and help centers, read on 7 October 2026.

## How each one meters the bill

Weglot counts the total of unique words translated across all your languages, and its pricing page says that total is a fixed limit that does not renew. Its help center gives its own example: an 8,000-word site in three languages comes to about 24,000 translated words. Each plan also caps languages, projects and translation requests a month, which the pricing page describes as about equal to translated page views. Starter is €15 a month for one language, 10,000 words and 20,000 requests; Business €29 for three languages, 50,000 words and 50,000 requests; Pro €79 for five languages, 200,000 words and 200,000 requests; and Advanced €299 for ten languages, 1,000,000 words and 1,000,000 requests. Weglot's prices exclude VAT.

GTranslate's paid plans are priced in dollars and charge nothing per word or per page view. Custom starts at $12 a month for one extra language, Startup is $25 a month for all languages, Business $35 adds URL translation, and Enterprise $50 adds hosting a language on its own domain. GTranslate's terms set a fair-use line: recurring traffic above 100,000 translated page hits in 24 hours counts as excessive and may be throttled.

## The free plans work differently

Weglot's free plan covers 2,000 words in one language for one project, and its paid plans start with a 14-day trial.

GTranslate's free version is a language switcher that translates in the visitor's browser with Google Translate. Its WordPress page says the free version gives no SEO advantage, because the URL does not change and translations are not stored. GTranslate's terms also limit it to personal, educational, internal testing, nonprofit or governmental use that does not directly generate revenue. A shop or a company site needs a paid GTranslate plan to stay within those terms.

## Translation engine and editing

Weglot uses DeepL when DeepL supports the language pair, and Google Translate or Microsoft otherwise. Its AI Suggestions, generated with OpenAI, can rephrase or shorten a line. You edit in a visual editor that works on a preview copy of the site, with a panel for SEO tags, and "always translate" and "never translate" rules of up to five words each keep terms consistent. Weglot lists more than 110 languages.

GTranslate's paid plans use Google's neural translation, and you correct a line by clicking the pencil icon beside it on the translated page. Instead of a glossary, paid plans can skip phrases, CSS selectors or whole pages. GTranslate lists 103 languages, and it sells professional and automated post-editing as a separate service.

## What happens after you change a page

Weglot translates new and changed text when someone, a visitor or a search engine, opens the translated page, and adds the words to your total. GTranslate's proxy fetches your original when a visitor opens a translation, so changes appear once its cache refreshes. Before you spend time on manual corrections in GTranslate, note that its help center says that when the original text changes, an earlier manual edit of it is replaced by automatic translation.

## Review before visitors see it

Weglot has controls for this. Its help center says languages are public by default, so translated pages are visible straight away. You can turn off automatic content translation, after which new content waits in a list until you approve it, or keep a language in private mode until you make it public. In Weglot 2.0, the AI Translation Quality Checker points your team to the content that deserves a closer look.

I found no approval step on GTranslate's site. Its paid plans serve machine translation as it is made, and you refine it with the pencil icons afterwards.

## URLs, SEO and domains

Weglot adds hreflang tags automatically, with `x-default` added by hand, and translates titles, meta descriptions, alt text and structured data. Translated URL slugs need Pro or above, and a top-level domain per language, such as an `.es` domain, is a plan feature listed from Extended (€699 a month).

GTranslate adds hreflang tags and translated meta descriptions on paid plans. URL translation comes with Business and Enterprise, or as an option on a Custom plan, and a separate domain per language with Enterprise at $50 a month.

## A worked example: a 60,000-word site in five languages

A worked example, priced from each vendor's page on 7 October 2026: a marketing site on Webflow with 60,000 words, translated into five languages, with translated URL slugs.

| | Weglot | GTranslate |
| --- | --- | --- |
| What gets counted | 60,000 words times 5 languages, about 300,000 words | Nothing per word or page view, within fair use |
| Plan that covers it | Advanced: 10 languages, 1,000,000 words. Pro has five languages but stops at 200,000 words | Business: all languages plus URL translation |
| Price listed | €299 a month, or €2,990 a year, excluding VAT | $35 a month, or $350 a year |
| Translated slugs | Included from Pro | Included from Business |
| If the site doubles | About 600,000 words, still inside Advanced | No change to the price |

If slugs do not matter, GTranslate's Startup plan at $25 a month covers the same five languages, and Weglot's plan is still set by the 300,000 words. The two prices are in different currencies, and Weglot's excludes VAT, so read them as each vendor printed them. Weglot's bill grows with the words on the site and with translated traffic, and GTranslate's with the features you add, up to its fair-use line.

The comparison changes for a smaller site. At 8,000 words in three languages, Weglot's own example lands at about 24,000 words, which fits Business at €29 a month for three languages.

## Which one fits

Weglot fits a team that wants DeepL where it is available, a glossary of always and never translate rules, editing on a preview copy, and the option to approve new content before it shows. Its word cap is the part to plan around, together with which plan includes translated slugs.

GTranslate fits a site that is large, or grows often, and needs a predictable monthly price; and a site that needs a country domain per language, which GTranslate includes in Enterprise. The free widget fits personal and nonprofit sites that do not need search traffic in other languages.

## Where LangRelay fits

Both proxies work on any platform. LangRelay does not: it serves search-friendly translations only on WordPress, and on other sites its script embed translates in the browser without SEO value. For the Webflow site in the example, Weglot or GTranslate is the choice.

On a WordPress site, LangRelay works differently from both. Its plugin keeps one post per page, serves approved translations under `/fr/`-style paths with hreflang and a canonical per language, and reports an edit about a minute after you save it. Only the changed text is translated. By default a translation goes live as soon as it is ready, and free checks hold a page with untranslated text, the wrong language or a changed price. To approve every page yourself, choose Ask me first. During the pilot it translates between nine languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Korean, Dutch, Portuguese and Turkish. Plans are on the [pricing page](https://www.langrelay.com/pricing).
