## At a glance

- Weglot
  Translating proxy for any platform
  €15 a month
Unique translated words across all your languages: a fixed total that does not renew. Languages and projects are capped per plan. Prices exclude VAT. Free: 2,000 words, 1 language, 1 project. Checked 7 October 2026.
  What it does well
    - Works on almost any platform: Weglot says it connects natively to more than 70 platforms, including custom-built websites.
    - Server-side translation with hreflang and translated metadata, so search engines see every language.
    - Editing tools for teams: a visual editor, translators and teammates in the dashboard, and professional translation ordered inside Weglot.
    - A free plan for up to 2,000 words, and a 14-day free trial with no credit card required.
    - MCP-powered assistance in Weglot 2.0, so AI assistants can find projects, review translations and update content.

Weglot is a hosted translating proxy. It works on almost any platform, and it charges for the total number of words your translated site holds, across every language, with a cap that does not reset each month. If that word total is growing faster than you planned, or you would rather keep translations in your own WordPress database, the alternative that fits depends first on whether your site runs on WordPress.

I build LangRelay, a WordPress plugin covered after the six vendors below. Their facts and prices are as their own sites gave them on 7 October 2026.

## Two questions that narrow the list

The first question is your platform. If the site runs on Shopify, Webflow, Wix, Squarespace or a custom stack and you need translated pages that search engines index, you want another hosted service: Linguise, ConveyThis or GTranslate. Weglot's integrations page lists WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Wix, Squarespace and Framer, so leaving it for a WordPress-only plugin only makes sense when WordPress is all you run.

The second question is what you were unhappy with. If it was the bill tracking your site's size, look at services priced another way: a flat monthly fee, a per-domain word quota that counts differently, or a yearly plugin licence. Owning the translated text means a WordPress plugin that keeps translations in your database, and checking translations before visitors see them means a tool with an approval step. Weglot does offer one: you can turn off automatic content translation, keep a language in private mode, or hide machine translations per language. By default, its help center says, languages are public and new text is translated automatically.

## The six alternatives at a glance

Prices are the cheapest paid plan each vendor listed on 7 October 2026. Weglot's own entry plan, for comparison, was Starter at €15 a month for one language and 10,000 words, excluding VAT.

| Option | How it works | Cheapest paid plan | Fits |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Linguise | Hosted service with a WordPress extension and 40+ CMS integrations | START, $15 a month per domain, 200,000 words, unlimited languages | Owners and agencies on self-hosted or hosted CMSs who want the whole site translated automatically |
| ConveyThis | Plugin, script or proxy, 35+ platform integrations | Starter, $12 a month, 1 language, 60,000 words, 15,000 page loads a month | Sites from a small blog to a large store that want translation without code |
| GTranslate | Free browser widget, or a paid translating proxy | Custom, $12 a month for one extra language, no word limit | Any HTML site that wants a flat price, within its fair use terms |
| WPML | WordPress plugin, a post per language | Multilingual Blog, €39 a year for one site, without AI translation | Businesses and agencies building multilingual WordPress sites |
| TranslatePress | WordPress plugin, translates the rendered page | Personal, €99 a year for one site with 50,000 AI words | Anyone translating a WordPress site on the page itself |
| Polylang | WordPress plugin, a post per language | Free on WordPress.org; Pro from €99 a year | WordPress sites translated by hand, or with DeepL in Pro |

LangRelay sits with the WordPress plugins. Its paid plans are on the [pricing page](https://www.langrelay.com/pricing).

## If you are not on WordPress

Linguise translates the whole site once you apply its API key and serves the result from its own servers. Linguise counts source words times target languages per domain, sells 200,000 words for $15 a month on START, and does not limit languages on any plan. Human edits and page views do not count against the quota. Each domain is billed on its own.

ConveyThis also counts words, but its FAQ calls them a one-time allocation you use at your own pace, while page loads reset monthly. It lists 210 languages and has a visual editor on every plan, including the free one (10,000 words, one language).

GTranslate prices by language, with no word or page-view meter on paid plans: $12 a month adds one language, and Startup at $25 covers all of them. Its terms treat recurring traffic above 100,000 translated page hits in 24 hours as excessive. The free widget translates in the visitor's browser, which GTranslate says gives no SEO advantage, and GTranslate's terms allow that free version only for personal, educational, internal testing, nonprofit or governmental use that does not directly generate revenue.

I found no step on these three vendors' sites that holds each translation for approval. Linguise's install guide says the whole site is translated once the key is applied. ConveyThis lets you review in private mode before you publish the site as a whole, and its features page mentions approving changes, without describing a hold on single translations.

## If you are on WordPress

Weglot stores translations in its own database. Three plugins keep the translated text in your WordPress database instead.

WPML and Polylang create a WordPress post for each language. That suits sites that want to edit a translated page like any other post, and it means every language has to be kept in step with the original. TranslatePress keeps one post and stores translations string by string in its own tables, closer to how Weglot's plugin behaves on the front end.

LangRelay also keeps one post. Like Weglot, it keeps translations in its own service; its plugin serves the approved ones from your server under `/fr/`-style paths, with hreflang and a canonical per language. By default a translation goes live as soon as it is ready, and free checks hold a page with untranslated text, the wrong language or a changed price. To approve every page yourself, choose Ask me first. Save an edit and the plugin reports it within about a minute; only the changed text goes to translation. During the pilot it translates between nine languages (English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Korean, Dutch, Portuguese and Turkish), far fewer than Weglot's 110-plus, so check your languages first.

## A worked example: one site, four languages

Take a 30,000-word site translated into four languages. This is a worked example with round numbers, priced from each vendor's page on 7 October 2026.

Weglot counts 30,000 words times four languages, so 120,000 words. Business allows three languages and 50,000 words, so the plan that fits is Pro at €79 a month (five languages, 200,000 words). Any new pages add to that total.

| Vendor | Plan that covers it | Price listed |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Weglot | Pro: 5 languages, 200,000 words | €79 a month |
| Linguise | START: 200,000 words, unlimited languages | $15 a month |
| ConveyThis | Business+: 4 languages, 400,000 words, 100,000 page loads a month | $40 a month |
| GTranslate | Startup: all languages | $25 a month |
| TranslatePress | Personal with a 100,000-word pack: 150,000 AI words | €99 a year plus €24 for the pack |

ConveyThis counts a word when translated content is shown to a visitor, so a busy site uses its allocation in a different way from the static total in this table. TranslatePress counts AI words per word and per language, so it needs 120,000 too. Personal covers four languages and includes 50,000 AI words; TranslatePress sells more from your account page, 100,000 for €24, which covers the rest. Business, at €199 a year, includes 200,000 AI words without a pack. The euro and dollar prices are as each vendor printed them; Weglot's and ConveyThis's exclude VAT.

## What moving away from Weglot involves

Weglot's translations live on Weglot's side, so a new tool translates your pages again from the originals. With a hosted alternative that means connecting the new service through its plugin, app or script. With a WordPress plugin it means installing it, letting it build its translations, and then removing Weglot. On Advanced and above, Weglot's pricing page lists export and import of translations as CSV or XLIFF. If you paid for translated URL slugs on Weglot's Pro plan or above, note them before you leave: links to translated URLs only keep working if the new tool uses the same ones. In LangRelay a translated slug is set by hand per page and language.

The [LangRelay vs Weglot comparison](https://www.langrelay.com/langrelay-vs-weglot) covers how the two handle review and pricing in detail, and the [buyer's guide](https://www.langrelay.com/best-website-translation-software-compared-2026) compares these tools capability by capability. If WPML is also on your list, [Weglot vs WPML](https://www.langrelay.com/weglot-vs-wpml) sets those two side by side.
